As a Student Union Deputy President, you will support the Student’s Union President with the day-to-day oversight of the Student’s Union activities, events and development. This will include supporting through administrative activities the recruitment and election of student volunteers in the roles of SU officers and supporting the delivery of a wide range of engaging events, campaigns and support for students. You will work within the student participation and careers team, in the Student Employability Services Department and is responsible to the Student Voice Coordinator.
You will contribute to strategic developments of the Students Union, promoting and increasing engagement with it both within college and externally in the wider community. You will be an active member of staff that is proactive in talking to staff about students and apprentices about the Students’ Union.
Main Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of cross-college student activities which meet national and College priorities and learners’ needs, including aspects of health promotion, community cohesion and volunteering opportunities;
* Provide administrative support for a proactive, responsive information service for learners whilst also supporting the development of positive attitudes and relations;
* Support the delivery of Students’ Union sponsored clubs, societies, events, campaigns and social activities;
* Provide administrative support for any events or activities including room booking, catering orders, printing or resource sourcing and guest speaker documentation;
* Support the Students’ Union President with the recruitment and management of Students’ Union Officers;
* Maintain routine record keeping, ensuring security of confidential records and resources;
* Be one of the initial points of contact for the Students’ Union, referring and signposting to other college services and teams;
* Welcome and receive internal and external visitors;
* Represent the student body at appropriate strategic and advisory groups including as the second Student Governor for the Governing Body
* Deputise for the Students’ Union President when needed
From time-to-time these responsibilities may be reviewed so that they evolve as part of the college’s strategic growth and success. You may also be required to take on other tasks related to the job to support the College in the delivery of its strategic aims, without changing the role's main purpose.
Cross College Responsibilities
You may be required to participate in cross-college teams and working groups on key projects.
You may need to attend relevant internal committees and groups.
You will act as a role model to colleagues, ensuring that the responsibilities of the post are carried out in line with the College’s FREDIE+ values and behaviours.
Student Related Responsibilities
* Anyone who has regular contact with children and young people in their day-to-day responsibilities must ensure they are safe. You will work with the Safeguarding Team, ensuring concerns regarding students/apprentices are shared in a timely, accurate manner
* You will be involved in supporting college open days, during the exam season student enrolment, and any other required events.
Other Responsibilities
All staff are responsible for ensuring the college provides a safe environment for students, staff and visitors. You will support this by:
* Understanding and undertaking the specific responsibilities for their role as documented within the Health and Safety Policies and procedures.
* Ensure compliance with Data Protection Regulations.
