Overview
Service Technician – Unitary (Trane UK Ltd – South East Region) provides exceptional customer service and technical support across the UK as a national role requiring travel. The role aims to maintain customer plant and equipment installed under our maintenance and service contract, maximize technician productivity, and improve the overall customer experience and operational processes. This position is based in the Cambridgeshire, Bedford and Hertfordshire areas and involves local and national travel as required.
Responsibilities
* Diagnose system problems when servicing products and equipment on assigned projects and customer site visits.
* Attend customer sites to perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), respond to customer breakdowns, perform warranty work, handle hires and commissioning workloads. National travel across the UK; flexibility for overnight stays and on-call duty when required.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with customers as a trusted point of contact.
* Collaborate with Service Desk, Sales, and Operations to share key customer insights and improve processes.
* Use applicable software, diagnostics, and MS Office tools; follow blueprints or engineering specifications to diagnose and repair units.
* Generate regular reports on completed invoiced work orders; maintain accurate records and communications with supervisors and managers to drive continuous improvement.
Internal Controls and Administration
* Proven experience in a service or field-based technician role.
* Strong knowledge of customer service principles; excellent interpersonal skills to motivate technicians and deliver quality customer experiences.
* Effective communication skills; analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
* Proficiency in using Apps, diagnostic software, and MS Office Suite.
* UK driver’s license; right to work in country of application; willingness to cover standby and call-out duties on a planned schedule including weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays.
Skills and Capabilities
* Category 1 (I) F-Gas C&G 2079 Level 2 certification and hold COCN1, CIGA1 & ICPN1.
* Light Commercial knowledge in the Retail sector with first-fix experience and ability to handle multiple callouts with travel times up to 2–4 hours per shift.
* Knowledge of packaged rooftop HVAC units; familiarity with smart controls and BMS integration.
* Positive mindset, good people and communication skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Able to cover standby and call-outs on a planned schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; UK driver’s license; right to work in the UK.
