The job is split into 2 PA of supporting professional activities (SPA) and 6 PA of direct clinical care (DCC) and it is hoped that the post-holder will be encouraged to use the enhanced SPA provision within this post to engage in research, education or service development in conjunction with local colleagues to ensure that this can occur in formal protected time. The appointed consultant will be expected to provide key medical leadership to the WICT (Whitby integrated community team) alongside the multi-disciplinary team., As a senior medic within the team, it is the expectation that the post holder will-

Offer senior advice and support in the assessment, formulation, diagnosis and management of presenting conditions.

Support the team and other prescribers to make safe and effective prescribing decisions where required.

The postholder will provide senior medical care and supervision in the assessment, diagnosis, care planning and delivery of pharmacological and psychosocial interventions.

Support the physical health practitioners within the team and have close, collaborative working relationships with primary care GP colleagues to maintain the physical health of patients. This process will be supported by junior doctors.

Take part in morning huddle meetings with the team as well as attending MDT meetings, professionals meetings, and the team leadership meeting.

Take part in and provide insight and direction into complex case work, contributing to the overarching formulation of patient care and planning within the scope of MDT approach.

Join the wider team in providing relevant teaching and training when required.

We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.

We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public.

Psychiatrists are essential contributors to our mental health teams. Service users expect and are justified to expect collaborative relationships with dedicated psychiatrists who work consistently as part of effective services. The Medical Directorate and Medical Development Team are striving to improve medical workforce recruitment and retention in a variety of ways and the cornerstone of these efforts is The TEWV Charter for the Medical Workforce.
