Who We Are:

We're rebuilding the energy transaction system, making it transparent and fair.

tem exists to put power back in the hands of people. Today’s wholesale energy market is stacked in favour of the few. It's a product of an age of oil and gas, riddled with markups and middlemen. We’re changing that.

Our product, RED, built on a proprietary pricing engine that bypasses the wholesale market, enables businesses to buy the energy produced by renewable generators directly. That's 100% transparent transactions, ensuring affordable bills and fair compensation, to give every business ownership and control over where their energy comes from.

Since launching in 2021, we’ve saved UK businesses and generators over £20 million, powering a growing network of forward-thinking companies, from Pizza Pilgrims to Silverstone. Backed by top-tier VCs such as Atomico and Albion, we’re creating a new category in energy - one that’s local, decentralised, and built on trust.

The Role:

We’re looking for a Data Engineering Manager to lead and scale our growing Data team, supporting both data engineering and analytics as we expand. We are a business where data is at the core of our product and this role will play a key role in shaping how the team operates, to help power our product and form the foundations of decision making across the business.

This role is focused on people leadership, delivery support, and team development. You won’t be building pipelines or writing SQL day to day, but you’ll support our ICs to do their best work, guide technical direction at a structural level, and partner with Product and Engineering to ensure our data efforts stay aligned and impactful.

In your first 12 months, success looks like this: you’ve built trust across the team, helped individuals grow in their roles, improved our operating rhythm and delivery confidence, and laid the foundations for a scalable data organisation as we continue to grow towards our Series B.

Responsibilities:

* Lead and grow a high-performing data team: Own hiring, onboarding, performance, and progression across both data engineering and analytics. Create an environment where data practitioners feel supported, motivated, and set up to succeed.
* Champion role clarity and tailored progression: Build clear distinctions between roles across the team - Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, and Data Analytics. Evolve career paths, evaluation criteria, and KPIs that reflect the unique contributions of each discipline.
* Create clarity and drive delivery: Help the team stay focused and aligned on high-impact priorities. You’ll bring structure and rhythm to our work, without unnecessary process, so we can move fast with confidence.
* Support technical direction at a team level: Support engineers and analysts to make smart architectural and design decisions. While you won’t be hands-on, you’ll bring a strong grasp of core data principles and help the team maintain quality and scalability as we grow.
* Partner cross-functionally: Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations to ensure the data team is set up to support current and future product development. Help translate business needs into data priorities, and vice versa.
* Foster a scalable data culture: Set up the team for long-term success by putting the right structure in place today, and supporting future leaders to grow as the team evolves.

Requirements:

* Proven data team leadership: Experience managing data engineering and analytics teams in a growing, fast-paced environment. You know how to support individuals, manage performance, and lead through change.
* Strong team and delivery focus: Comfortable leading without being the technical expert. You know how to unblock progress, create focus, and help teams deliver consistently.
* Technically credible: You bring a solid understanding of modern data concepts (e.g. ELT vs ETL, pipeline orchestration, observability, data warehouse design, dbt, BI tools) and have experience working with multi-disciplinary data teams. You know how to balance quick wins with longer-term data infrastructure investments.
* Great cross-functional partner: You've worked closely with the wider business, including Product, Engineering, Ops, and other Data teams, to shape data strategy and delivery. You can speak both technical and business languages.
* Future-oriented leader: Excited about building a long-term data organisation, and supporting emerging leaders as they take on more responsibility.
* Strong culture builder: You lead with openness and empathy, create psychological safety, and know how to foster inclusion and trust across a diverse team.

Benefits & Perks:

* Competitive salary - our current band for this role is £100,500 or equivalent in local currency.
o We review salaries twice a year using real-time market data, with transparent, consistent pay for the same role and level.
* Stock Options - everyone on the team has ownership in our mission.
* 25 days holiday + public holidays - Swap public holidays for ones that matter most to you. Plus, get an extra day off for your birthday .
* Remote & flexible working - We’re fully remote with clear core hours, and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons.
* Home working & wellbeing budgets:
o Up to £1,200 / €1,200 annually to upgrade your remote setup (co-working passes, equipment, etc.).
o Up to £150 / €150 monthly on anything that supports your wellbeing - from therapy to gym memberships to meditation apps.
️ Interview Process:

Our processes normally take around 2-3 weeks from first call to offer - please let us know about any adjustments to timelines that may be required.

* First call with our Talent Team (30 Mins). This is to understand your experience, motivations, and discuss the role in more detail.
* Behaviour Interview with our Head of Data (60 Mins). This is your chance to really understand the role, the expectations, and ensure alignment on ways of working.
* Skills Interview with the Team (75 Mins). You’ll meet with potential peers in this session and will discuss how you lead and manage high performing teams, and discuss a range of management scenarios.
* Culture-Add Interview with Stakeholders (45 Mins). The final session will be with two cross-functional stakeholders, and will explore how your values align with ours, and is designed to be a genuine two-way conversation, your chance to understand what it’s really like to work at tem.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities, including those that are traditionally underrepresented in the tech and energy sectors. If you’re excited about this role but not sure you meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. Your unique perspective could be exactly what we’re looking for.
