Matchtech is working with a key client to recruit for two DPEs to work on a high-profile railway project in Toronto.
These roles will require the successful candidates to relocate to Toronto.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting the project manager and project team with project documentation and control, job cost accounting, scheduling, and construction supervision efforts. To be successful, this candidate should be comfortable handling multiple tasks that require various skills and appropriately prioritizing their completion.
Responsibilities
1. Implement rail systems and procedures to maintain a cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible approach to design, commissioning, and other technical activities on relevant projects, in compliance with all relevant legislation. Liaise with regulators and other stakeholders as appropriate.
2. Engineer projects to the standards and specifications of the client, ensuring design and contracts are compliant with company standards, formal specifications, and procedures.
3. Manage all engineering activities to produce schemes that are affordable, meet programme requirements, and are completed safely and responsibly regarding environment, time, cost, and quality.
4. Utilize relevant techniques and procedures for risk assessment and HAZOP analysis, and manage environmental aspects of projects in accordance with the client’s environmental policy.
5. Monitor design and specialist consultants and contractors.
6. Provide project management advice for all activities, including testing, commissioning, and site supervision. Ensure design and construction elements meet current legislation and regulations.
7. Ensure internal and contractor design/specialist personnel are competent.
8. Review design activities and arrange audits of contractors to monitor safety, environment, and quality of design, testing, and commissioning systems.
9. Perform duties of the designated project engineer (DPE) for specific projects.
10. Share best practices across project teams.
The Ideal Candidate
1. Relevant experience in signalling engineering, preferably with involvement in multi-disciplinary design projects.
2. Technical qualifications such as HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level.
3. Knowledge of quality assurance processes.
4. Understanding of independent assessment arrangements for work.
5. Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status or a degree qualification.
6. Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects.
7. An understanding of environmental issues related to engineering works.
