Long Term Care Assistant – Halifax Campus
The LTCA are part of the team of staff working on the resident house. They work closely with CCAs, LPN, RN, housekeeping staff and CSA teams. In partnership with the recreation therapy programmers, the LTCA assists residents in meeting their daily goals as part of the resident care plan.
Qualifications
* GED
* Experience working in Long Term Care setting is preferred.
Responsibilities
* Support residents in individualized psychosocial activities to meet resident needs outside of personal care activities, under the guidance of the recreation therapy team as per the resident recreation therapy plan.
* Implement and assist in the implementation of house‑based recreation therapy programs.
* Assist in large group recreation therapy programs both within the facility and in the community.
* Document on the LTCA documentation sheet 1:1s and program implementation.
* Provide dining room support at resident meal times. As per the dining support training process, this could include assisting the resident/client to the dining room, putting on a clothing protector, cutting up food, and providing assistance with eating under the instruction and guidance of the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
* Assist resident/client to their scheduled on‑site appointments, activities, celebrations and events. Assistance may be in the form of assisted ambulation or transport based on their safe mobility needs.
* Perform house support duties: answer call bells, assist in putting clothes away and support residents in tidying and organizing rooms.
* Carry out video chats with residents and their families.
* Other duties as required.
Schedule & Compensation
Salary: As per Northwood Scale
Hours: 64 hours bi‑weekly (8‑hour shifts)
