Site Reliability Engineering Specialist
Overview
Professional Services is a progressive development within BT that converges multiple domains to deliver expert third line support and maintain the required availability levels. The team is recognised for getting things done, while driving transformational improvements. This role is pivotal in driving automation and operational excellence, leading the automation strategy, evolving development practices, and championing an SRE mindset to improve reliability, scalability and performance across our platforms, including hosting infrastructure.

Responsibilities
* Actively contribute to and drive the Professional Services automation strategy.
* Own and contribute to the roadmap for APPIDs, including EoSL planning, application lifecycle, compute requirements and BCM planning.
* Manage compute infrastructure hosts, patching and security vulnerability management.
* Build network automation frameworks to enable efficient testing, building & deployment of new automated processes, inclusive of CI/CD pipelines.
* Enact the Professional Services driverless change ambition by identifying potential use cases and driving success.
* Contribute to the adoption of an SRE approach within the Professional Services team.
* Lead technical incidents within the immediate domain and participate in PIR write‑ups and resolutions.
* Serve as a subject‑matter expert for TSA guidelines and influence working practices to stay compliant with industry standards.
* Champion and build effective relationships internally and externally to deliver business outcomes.
* Deliver complex network change and provide assurance of fixed network platforms managed by Professional Services.
Qualifications & Experience
* Network engineer with a solid grasp of network automation fundamentals and a desire to expand.
* IT Infrastructure engineer with extensive experience building automated deployment workflows and an interest in expanding into network engineering.
* Software engineer with strong experience building automated deployments and a desire to expand into network engineering.
Skills You'll Need
* Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python.
* Understanding of Ansible fundamentals and how to apply them.
* Strong understanding of containerisation using Docker, Podman, or a similar engine.
* Knowledge of coding best practices, including structure, peer review and testing.
* Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and familiarity with GitLab CI/CD or Jenkins.
* Strong communication skills with all stakeholders, including senior management.
* Ability to work in high‑pressure environments.
* Good grasp of network engineering fundamentals.
* Understanding of HTTP and web APIs.
Desired
* Strong understanding of IP/MPLS networks.
* Proficiency in building CI/CD pipelines.
* Experience building an Ansible repository from scratch for heavy‑lift deployment.
* Strong understanding of container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes).
* OS administration skills across Linux, Windows, etc., with a focus on performance, security and automation.
* Understanding of cloud computing and best practices.
