Job description This role sits within a dedicated Skill Group alongside other engineers working within the technical discipline of Electrical Power and Distribution (EPD) Engineering. As a Marine EPD Engineer, you will be supporting elements of EPD in the acquisition cycle and support to in-service equipment across a wide range of equipment. You will support Delivery Teams by offering expert advice and guidance across a wide range of platforms and systems. You may influence, challenge or audit Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) Electrical Distribution Systems and equipment used across a variety of warships. You will also have the opportunity to manage graduates and apprentices and support them in their development. As an Electrical Power and Distribution Engineer, you’ll contribute to some of the UK’s most high-profile and technologically advanced programmes. Examples of this include the development and application of electrical engineering solutions on advanced warships such as the Type 26 Frigates, Queen Elizabeth Class Carriers, Type 45 Destroyers and legacy classes of ships. You will be required to interface with customers and industry partners on sites across the UK, either through face-to-face meetings or through digital communications technology. Specialisms associated with this Skill Group/Success Profile are: Energy Storage; Power Electronics; Motors and Rotating Machines; HV and LV High-Power Systems; Power Distribution and Control; Insulation Protection and Integrity. This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months. Regular in-person attendance is required to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance and business need. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role. What you’ll be doing Requirements - Manage the generation of EPD requirements, defining technical deliverables/artifacts and updating other documentation for sub-systems, including the considerations to in-service support and associated costs. Technical Data - Verify and recommend the use of technical data to support the management and maturity of engineering documentation, focusing on successful technical outcomes. Legislation/Policy - Working in a highly regulated area, differentiate and comply with relevant legislation, regulation, policy, processes, and standards to deliver technical documentation for a sub-system. This includes the essential relation to quality, safety, security, and sustainability, of the sub-system, and the interoperability with other sub-systems. Risk – Acts upon identified risk (such as safety, environment, support, financial) and applies the principles of risk escalation and risk transfer. Design - Manage the design of a sub-system, component or process that meets the customer requirement within realistic constraints of time, cost, and performance. Stakeholder Management - Collaborate and accommodate trade-offs with other sub-system teams and specialists, over EPD requirements, and design compromises, to maximise successful system implementation and delivery. Person specification To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria : Have experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful Electrical Power and/or Distribution engineering outcomes.
