As a Senior Lecturer in one of the largest providers of nurse education in the UK, you will be working with a vibrant community of academics, practitioners and researchers with a commitment to providing high-quality, research-informed teaching, to ensure active learning.


Main duties of the job

You will need:

* The ability to design and deliver transformative and innovative learning experiences.
* Knowledge and understanding of critical, practical, and theoretical issues relevant to Community Nursing Specialist Practice and Adult nursing and the health and social care agenda.
* Experience of teaching, training or supervising undergraduate and postgraduate nurses in a practice or academic environment.
* Current NMC registration as an Adult Nurse, Community Nursing Specialist Practice (SPQ District Nurse) and non-medical prescriber.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.


About us

You will join a team of academic practitioners, innovating, leading, teaching and supporting registrants accessing our SPQ District Nursing and non-medical prescribing programmes. You will also support students nurses across the undergraduate and postgraduate Adult nursing curricula, alongside opportunities to be involved in research and project work. You will be involved with supporting students, linking with our practice partners, and engaging with the research agenda. There will the opportunity for line management.


Job responsibilities

Toteach and support students by taking a learner-centred approach in line withthe Universitys learning, teaching and assessment strategy.

Tocontribute to curriculum development and delivery, research and other formsof scholarly activity as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder performs arange of duties and responsibilities from those listed below. The balance ofthese will vary between post holders.

Designs and delivers innovative, high qualityand challenging learning experiences.

Equips students with the skills, knowledge andattributes required by employers through delivery of the curriculum.

Contributes to the development of a sense of studentcommunity and acts as key contact for students.

Assists with the operational delivery of courses /modules and acts proactively to address any emerging issues, escalating asappropriate.

Actively participates in student induction (whereappropriate), including preparation of key information for students.

Plays an active role in the pastoral care andsupervision of students.

Learning, teaching andassessment

Plans and delivers the curriculum using appropriatemedia, including the use of IT.

Engages in critical reflection on practice as abasis for improving performance.

Contributes to innovation in learning, teaching,assessment and curriculum development with the aim of meeting the needs oflearners.

Provides effective feedback, support and guidance tostudents.

Translates professional experience into the academiccontext as appropriate.

Regularly engages in staff development activitiesrelating to teaching, learning and assessment.

Supervises individual and group-based studentactivities, e.g. dissertations, industrial placements, work basedprojects.

Research and scholarlyactivity

Identifies and conducts research and scholarlyactivity which is relevant to the lecturing role.

Integrates research into teaching andlearning.

Identifies opportunities for income generation and /or entrepreneurialism through research, consultancy or professionalpractice.

Teamwork and communication

Works effectively with colleagues at all levels andcontributes to the achievement of team objectives.

Develops collaborative relationships across teamsand between colleges / departments.

Maintains dialogue with managers in the performanceof post responsibilities.

Develops networks of useful contacts both within andoutside the University.

Personal effectiveness

Seeks ways to improve efficiency and quality andmotivates and encourages others.

Contributes to achievement of organisationalgoals.

Business effectiveness

Engages with the relevant business and professionalenvironments to develop and promote relationships that will enhance incomegeneration. Develops an understanding of market and business needs.

Engages with relevant business and professionalenvironments to promote student learning, scholarly work, andself-development in a real-world context.

Contributes to business enhancement and maintenanceof customer-focus.

Quality management andenhancement

Contributes to the development and achievement ofquality standards and criteria.

Takes part in initiatives to improve quality ofeducational provision and access to higher education.

These duties may evolve inline with the changing strategic objectives of the college / department andUniversity. Specific objectives will be agreed through the Universitysperformance and development review (PDR) process.

Person Specification


Other relevant information

* Willingness to work flexibly including some weekends and evenings, e.g. to support open days (occasional).
* Willingness to travel in UK and overseas (occasional).


Experience

* Well-developed and current knowledge and understanding of critical, practical and theoretical issues relevant to adult and district nursing and the health & social care agenda.
* Teaching, training or supervising undergraduate and postgraduate nursing or other healthcare professionals in a clinical practice or academic environment.
* Knowledge of how information technology can support educational delivery and learning.
* Professional experience in a relevant discipline, with experience of working in an integrated way and caring for patients across the healthcare environment.
* Ability to inspire, enthuse and connect with a range of stakeholders e.g. students and external clients from a wide range of backgrounds.
* Ability to design and deliver transformative and innovative learning experiences.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent team working skills and the ability to establish good working relationships.
* Excellent planning and organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting demands and meet deadlines.
* Evidence of a contribution to knowledge in your field e.g. publications or creative work.
* Undertaking professional or academic project work e.g. research, creative or industrial projects, scholarship and/or knowledge transfer.


Qualifications

* Good honours degree (i.e. UK 2.1 or 1st Class), or equivalent professional qualification (as confirmed by ECCTIS if overseas qualification) in a relevant discipline
* Masters or other postgraduate qualification or equivalent or commitment to achieve a Masters degree, and/or substantial professional experience in a relevant discipline
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Current relevant NMC Registration in Adult nursing including Community Nursing Specialist Practice (SPQ District Nursing)
* Postgraduate teaching qualification (PG Cert or HEA fellowship) or equivalent or a commitment to complete
* Doctorate in a relevant discipline (or equivalent qualification, as confirmed by ECCTIS).
