Offer description

Fixed term 12 months

The Ophthalmology department requires an experienced clerical officer to work with the cataract unit team. You will be dealing with members of the public, patients, and staff within the ophthalmology department of NHS Fife.

We are looking for an individual to join our clerical team in Ophthalmology to cover a maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high standards of care to patients using our service. You will support the ophthalmic team in delivering services to patients within the Fife area. There is potential to rotate across the Ophthalmology department, including outpatient areas, pre/post-operative in the cataract unit, and Ophthalmology theatres. Travel between sites will be necessary, as the department operates across four hospital sites.

We seek individuals with excellent communication skills, knowledge of TrakCare, healthcare portal, Sci-Store, Sci-Gateway, and SSTS, who can work effectively both as part of a team and independently.

You will report to the Senior Charge Nurse, Ophthalmology. The role requires excellent telephone communication skills to handle calls from general practitioners, opticians, patients, and other healthcare organizations.

Existing permanent employees must discuss this opportunity with their substantive line manager. The secondment policy can be found here. Without approval for a secondment from your current line manager, your application cannot proceed. External applicants with continuous NHS service must also have a secondment agreement from their current employer.

Please note, the salary for this post is pro-rata for part-time hours.

For informal enquiries, contact Stacey Arnott, Senior Charge Nurse, Ophthalmology at stacey.arnott2@nhs.scot.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to verify that all employees are entitled to work in the UK. If you are not a UK or Irish national, you must confirm your right to work in your application. NHS Scotland is committed to promoting equality and diversity and encourages applications from all sections of society.

Due to legislative changes effective from 1 April 2025, this role may require a different level of criminal records check. If classified as a "regulated role," appointment will be subject to joining the PVG Scheme. Further details are available at Disclosure Scotland Changes.

We support flexible working, family-friendly policies, and make reasonable adjustments for disabled candidates, those with long-term conditions, or who are neurodivergent.
