We are currently recruiting two Defendant Paralegals to join AXA's in-house Legal Services Unit (LSU) within AXA Retail.
LSU is AXA's in-house legal department responsible for managing litigated claims on behalf of AXA and its policyholders. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of approximately 100 motor claims brought against AXA and/or its policyholders.
At AXA, we promote a flexible working environment, allowing our staff to balance home and office work effectively. You will be required to work at least two days a week (40%) from our Gloucester or Birmingham locations, with an increase to three days (60%) towards the end of 2025. Travel to Gloucester is expected once a month or bimonthly.
What you'll be doing:
* Handling litigated claims against our Motor policyholders, defending proceedings to high standards.
* Negotiating bent metal claims while minimizing indemnity spend and claim lifecycle.
* Coordinating and preparing statements and briefing counsel.
* Providing commercially focused legal advice.
* Contributing to department knowledge sharing and training.
* Ensuring compliance with internal standards and procedures.

What you'll bring:
* A law degree and/or litigation experience (desirable).
* Good knowledge of the Road Traffic Act, Civil Procedure Rules, Hire/Credit Hire, and Court procedures.
* Ability to work independently with awareness of your competence and authority boundaries.
* Team-oriented with experience in mentoring, coaching, and supervising less experienced colleagues.
* Confident communicator capable of building relationships and influencing at all levels.
* Strong organizational skills for managing multiple claims using IT case management systems.
* Courage to challenge norms, share solutions, and conduct interrogative interviews and witness statement taking.
* Ability to handle a complex, changing workload under pressure while maintaining quality.
This role requires eligibility and authorization to work in the UK. The position is classified as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role, involving background screening every four years and annual declarations in interim years.
