LOCATION: Salford. Please note, you will be expected to attend the office 2 or 3 days per week.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £28,500 - £38,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC Sport is seeking two talented and versatile Journalists to provide crucial editorial support for TV production teams and create compelling content across digital platforms. The successful candidate will provide high-quality research and written work across day-to-day output, primarily on football, as well as for major events and regular iconic programmes like Match of the Day.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
Working as part of a small team, you will help shape and enrich the BBC's coverage of sporting events and stories during an exciting 2026 which includes Wimbledon and the football World Cup. The role will include influencing the editorial direction, commentary and analysis during those events, working closely with high-profile presenters, commentators and studio guests.
Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Under the direction of a Senior Journalist, generate high-quality and perceptive written content for digital platforms, including football data journalism.
* While working on live television programmes, whether in the Salford studios or occasionally as part of an outside broadcast, assist the content editor, presenter and studio guests to ensure accuracy and the highest editorial standards – checking and enhancing the script and graphics, writing copy for broadcast, answering queries and offering suggestions which provide added value for our audiences.
* Detailed and robust editorial research ahead of and during big sporting events is a key part of the role. This includes writing in-depth major event guidebooks which are used across the BBC and renowned in the industry worldwide.
* Work collaboratively within a team, building and maintaining effective relationships across BBC Sport.
* Plan and organise work efficiently, managing multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines and adapting to changing priorities.
* Maintain flexibility and resilience under pressure, particularly during major sporting events or breaking news situations.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Recent and substantial experience in journalism with proven ability to work effectively in teams but also independently when required.
* Exemplary and proven writing and subbing skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and formats. It's also vital to understand the necessity for accuracy.
* Sound editorial judgment aligned with BBC values and a passion for the stories that are generated by sport, including a keen interest in the sports news agenda.
* A detailed knowledge of most British mainstream sports.
* Ability to think clearly under pressure and effectively manage multiple priorities under pressure.

Desirable Criteria
* Experience of working in a live production environment.
* A good understanding and knowledge of our output on TV, social media, and digital platforms including the BBC Sport website and iPlayer.
