About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join the Emergency Department Research Team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. The role involves working alongside teams across the hospital and collaborating with researchers from other NHS Trusts, universities, and industry partners worldwide.
The team has recruited patients to over 80 clinical trials, including CTIMPs, observational studies, and commercially led research. This is an exciting opportunity to drive innovation and improve patient care by enhancing diagnostics, refining treatments, testing new technologies, and advancing medical knowledge. As the region’s Major Trauma Centre, the department has strong links with a leading Neuro Critical Care Unit, supporting a collaborative approach to improving patient outcomes.
The Emergency Department Research Team is a well‑established research delivery team made up of a Band 7 Senior Research Nurse, two Band 6 Research nurses and a Clinical Trials Coordinator, led by Dr Adrian Boyle, Dr Ed Barnard and Dr Virginia Newcombe, all of whom have extensive expertise in delivering research and innovation. Responsibilities
* Identify eligible clinical research participants and provide information and support to patients/participants.
* Conduct study recruitment and obtain consent according to ICH Good Clinical Practice, EU Clinical Trials legislation, and NHS research governance framework.
* Coordinate study treatment/interventions and assist in the provision of specialist nursing care.
* Collect and manage data in accordance with study protocols.
* Provide specialist advice and support to other staff and liaise with them.
* Perform research duties such as phlebotomy, ECG and laboratory work.
* Build relationships across the Emergency Department, admitting specialties and clinical support teams to maximise referrals and recruitment to trials.
* Own study management for specific clinical trials, liaise with Sponsors, Chief Investigators, Principal Investigators, and deliver training to clinical staff on those trials.
Qualifications & Skills
* Registered Nurse with the appropriate nursing qualification.
* Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills with patients and colleagues.
* Experience or competence in phlebotomy, ECG and laboratory skills.
* Experience in a research or clinical trials environment is desirable.
