Job Overview
We are looking for an ENT Consultant Surgeon for a 1‑year fixed‑term post with likelihood of extending into a substantive role. The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive general ENT service in a busy acute trust on the outskirts of London.
The candidate should have adequate experience in general ENT and be competent in all types of routine ENT surgery, including otology, rhinology, paediatric ENT and head and neck cancer surgery. They should also be able to work well with the ENT teams at Mid and South Essex Trust (Broomfield, Southend and Basildon), adapt clinical skills and exchange ideas to promote patient safety and research. Cover will be required across the wider Essex area.
The on‑call commitment is 1:12, as part of the Essex wide ENT Network Service.
Responsibilities
Successful candidate must be able to make independent decisions regarding patient treatment plans and carry out independent theatre sessions on a broad range of ENT conditions. They must also handle difficult patients in an acute setting and manage expectations.
Key duties include:
* Out of hours cover for new A&E attendances (Essex network area)
* Out of hours cover for ward patients (average 8 patients per week elective/emergency)
* Cover for elective patients emergency attendances
* Effective clinical risk management for ENT activity in all aspects
* ENT service to both Children and Adults
* Supervise and teach specialist doctors at registrar level and GPVTS trainees at junior doctor level
* Work with GPs to develop community services and guidelines, providing support, teaching and training
The post holder will be based at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, and will undertake outpatient sessions at St Margarets Hospital, Epping and Herts & Essex Hospital, Bishops Stortford. Possible cover at St. Albans.
