We have an exciting opportunity at our established and busy GP practice for an enthusiastic receptionist to join our friendly team. This is a part-time, temporary position to cover maternity leave. The exact start date is likely around September 2025, with application closing dates to be confirmed.
We are a SystmOne practice. Experience as a GP receptionist is highly desirable.

Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities include receiving, assisting, and directing patients to access the appropriate services or healthcare professionals in a courteous, efficient, and effective manner.
About us
Hatfield Health Centre comprises 5 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 1 Physician Associate, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, and support staff including physiotherapists, a community mental health nurse, management team, secretaries, administrators, and receptionists.
Job responsibilities
Key tasks include:
* Providing an effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors.
* Carer navigation and signposting for patients.
* Handling incoming and outgoing calls.
* Liaising with clinical staff, including district nurses and health visitors.
* Working according to practice protocols.
* Managing general enquiries, explaining procedures, and booking appointments.
* Explaining practice arrangements to new patients and temporary visitors, ensuring procedures are followed.
* Entering appointment requests, tasks, and queries into clinical systems, recording details accurately, and referring to doctors when necessary.
* Monitoring the flow of patients into treatment and consulting rooms to ensure smooth operation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE grades A-C in English and Maths or equivalent.
Experience
* Caring attitude and desire to help people.
* Good IT skills and knowledge.
* Experience in a patient-facing environment or reception role in a different sector.
* Excellent listening, written, and interpersonal skills with staff, patients, and healthcare professionals.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Problem-solving skills and initiative.
* Willingness to learn new processes and systems.
* Experience as a receptionist in General Practice, NHS, Social Care, or similar environment is preferred.
* Experience using SystmOne is advantageous.
* Highly responsive and adaptable to requirements.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced organization.
