Offer description

Assessment of the needs of the patient and family, ensuring the provision of client-centered care focused on promoting health as well as managing illness.

Ensure accurate documentation of patient care in accordance with hospital policies and standards.

Administer specialized treatments such as chemotherapy, transplants, and blood products.

Assess educational and informational needs of patients and families, providing up-to-date information to enable participation in care planning.

Enhance care within the clinical area by applying relevant research outcomes when planning and delivering nursing care.

Evaluate nursing care and inform senior staff of patients' changing healthcare needs.

Maintain effective liaison and discussion with other wards, departments, referring hospitals, and community services.

Refer appropriately within and outside the Trust.

Demonstrate competent skills as a positive role model for potential postholders, in accordance with departmental needs.

Maintain safe practice according to Trust policies and standards.

Ensure all prescribed drugs and treatments are administered in line with the Trust's Medicine Management Policy.

MANAGERIAL:

Line manage members of the ward team.

Take charge of the department in the absence of the Senior Sister, ensuring standards of care and management responsibilities are maintained.

Ensure appropriate skill mix to meet clinical needs and keep senior management informed of pertinent issues.

Foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale.

Act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff, students, and trainees.

Work with senior staff to ensure clinical standards are met and participate in care audits.

Support health and safety responsibilities and promote a culture of safety.

Assist in recruitment, retention, and performance management of staff.

Manage staff absence and maintain personnel records.

Develop and update protocols and patient information.

Develop communication skills for difficult situations.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Maintain current nursing practice knowledge and participate in educational opportunities.

Supervise staff and disseminate knowledge of current developments.

Participate in appraisals and meet personal development needs.

Engage in research and audit activities to improve practice.

Ensure up-to-date training, including IV therapy and ECG competence.

Develop teaching skills and undertake managerial development as appropriate.

Participate in team meetings, mentorship, and service improvement initiatives.

Attend relevant conferences and study days.
