The role will be based at our offices at 2-4 Cockspur Street, London, SW1Y 5BS, in central London. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas. Informal hybrid working arrangements apply and there is an expectation that staff will attend the office regularly. Work pattern and office attendance will be agreed with successful candidates.

Job Summary

Strategy Group’s diverse responsibilities support operational delivery across the whole of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO). Strategy Group is made up of c.50 staff across five teams working on areas including Strategy & Planning, Performance, Risk & Assurance, Communication, Policy & Engagement, Victim & Witness Care, Continuous Improvement (CI), Operational Guidance & Policy, Memorandums of Understanding, Project Management Office, Private Office & Governance.

As The Improvement Lead You Will Lead a Small Team Responsible For Improvement Across Key SFO Functions, Covering Both Operational And Enabling Areas. You Will Work Across The Organisation To Develop, Deliver, Maintain, And Improve The Following Areas To a High Standard In Line With Our Priorities And Strategy:


* Continuous Improvement (CI) through our newly launched CI Service and Process.
* Operational Guidance and Operational Policy through our Operational Handbook and associated policies, procedures, and processes.
* Improving ways of working and relationships partners through our Memorandum of Understanding Service to ensure that the SFO is the partner of choice, both domestically and internationally.

The role is multi-functional role and you will need to develop close working relationships with colleagues across the organisation, at all levels. You will work closely with Senior Leadership and report to different functional committees within the organisation, chaired by SCS2 Executive Team members.

You will gain excellent experience in developing and delivering organisation-wide improvements, and the have the opportunity to work with senior leaders to deliver important services crucial to the delivery of the SFO’s strategy and its overall mission.

As a Senior Leader in Strategy Group you may need to support wider organisational priorities as and when they arise and will take a hands-on approach to the role, to ensure consistent delivery of a quality service to the SFO.

Job Description

The role would suit a professional Improvement Practitioner who can lead colleagues at all levels, think independently, and work collaboratively. The role holder will focus on delivering and improving services, enjoy working across teams, be comfortable working with senior leaders, and understand the detail of the work for which they are responsible.

As An Improvement Lead You Will Be Responsible For:

Continuous Improvement Service

* Leading the development, delivery, and improvement of our Continuous Improvement Service and Process, including developing and maintaining a CI culture across the SFO.
* Lead the development and implementation of continuous improvement strategies, ensuring alignment with departmental and government-wide objectives.
* Collaborate with senior leaders, operational teams, and external partners to drive a culture of improvement and efficiency.
* Alongside the Head of Improvement & PMO, the Head of Strategy Group, and the Chief Technology Officer, working with colleagues at all levels to identify opportunities to harness the power of AI technologies safely, effectively, and responsibly in order to drive productivity, innovation, improvements and efficiencies across the SFO.

Operational Guidance and Policy

* Continuous improvement and effective delivery of the Operational Handbook and ensuing processes and procedures both proactively and through Request for Change (RFC) alongside the ongoing maintenance of the Operational Handbook.
* Deliver and continue to improve the effective system to maintain the Operational Handbook content.

Memorandum of Understanding Service

* Leading the development and delivery of the Memorandum of Understanding Service in the SFO

This is a fixed-term appointment for 24 months with a possibility of extension (subject to business need).

Please note if you accept a Fixed-term Appointment with the SFO the preferred option is for you to transfer from your home department on a loan basis to ensure you can return to your home department at the end of the Fixed-term Appointment. Exceptionally, if a transfer on a loan basis cannot be agreed by your home department, you would transfer to the SFO on the basis that you would lose your permanent Civil Service status but retain your continuity of employment. However, if you face a redundancy situation at the end of the Fixed-term Appointment you will be treated as a permanent civil servant for redundancy and redeployment purposes only. You must have two years’ service to be eligible for redundancy benefits under the Civil Service Compensation Scheme.

Therefore You Should Be Aware That When Your Fixed-term Appointment At The SFO Comes To An End, Your Employment In The Civil Service Will End, Unless:
