Graduate Assistant – Biology
We have an excellent opportunity for a Graduate Assistant to work at the school for the academic year 2026-2027. The position is designed to give a recent Science graduate the opportunity to gain experience teaching Biology.
Role Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist who specialises in life sciences and is keen to foster an understanding and instill a love of the subject among young people. They will be excited about explaining the many and sometimes complex forces which shape biological behaviour and have a sense of mission about enriching biological literacy in an age where science is often seen as abstract.
The successful candidate will be an avid ambassador for the subject and will appreciate the potential this position offers for developing communication skills and understanding interpersonal dynamics in a first‑rate educational institution. Whether the candidate goes on to a full‑time teaching career or treats this as a fascinating foray into education, the experience will be invaluable.
Responsibilities
* Teach a reduced workload of approximately 24 forty‑minute periods per week (three to four classes).
* Participate in lesson observation and receive training to support teaching development.
* Involve in the extra‑curricular life of the college, such as coaching sports, playing in the orchestra, or engaging with college societies.
* Support pastoral duties as a member of the pastoral team.
Qualifications
* Recent graduate in a life sciences discipline (Biology, Ecology, Genetics, etc.).
* Strong passion for teaching and communicating science to young people.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a team.
* Willingness to undergo child protection screening, Disclosure and Barring Service checks, and provide evidence of qualifications and right to work in the UK.
