Lookers is recruiting for a Legal Counsel (Employment) to join its expanding Legal team. You will support our People team with a wide range of employment legal matters, including contentious and non-contentious matters. You will build positive relationships across the organisation and help to create a high performing team where everyone can be their best and thrive
Responsibilities
1. You will be experienced in advising on contentious and non-contentious employment work and will be confident as an Employment Tribunal advocate.
2. You will provide employment related advice with regards to reorganisations, acquisitions and disposals, change management, complex employee relations, transfers of undertakings, employment documentation (contracts and policies), incentive plans, prevention and litigation.
3. You will become a trusted business partner by building strong relationships with our colleagues across different business areas (in particular, the People function) to encourage early engagement with the Legal team, develop a good understanding of key business priorities and to mitigate legal risk.
4. You will use your employment experience to supervise and mentor other members of the Legal team when they need to get involved in employment related work and be happy to get involved in other areas of legal work subject to business requirements.
Skills and Knowledge
5. Qualified employment solicitor with at least five years post qualification experience, gained in-house or at a reputable law firm.
6. Confidence to steer colleagues to make a decision, rather than sitting on the fence. In doing so, demonstrate flexibility and pragmatism and the ability to balance legal risk against commercial benefits and practical constraints.
7. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships quickly with colleagues and external partners.
8. Strong analytical, problem solving and influencing skills with ability to communicate with a positive “can do” attitude and in a clear and simple way.
9. Ability to handle multiple matters, often with competing deadlines and changing priorities, to a high standard and sometimes under pressure.
