Job overview
The Therapies department at Birmingham Women’s Hospital seeks an experienced, well‑motivated, enthusiastic person to support the team, deliver treatment and ensure the smooth running of the service. The successful candidate will work with registered physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, occupational health therapists, as well as women and babies through key life stages and development milestones, and will interact with administration teams, ward staff, procurement and suppliers.
Main duties of the job
* Undertake treatment of patients, as selected by a qualified therapist, and in which the assistant has been trained.
* Ensure that therapy colleagues and other staff are kept informed of progress with patients and other delegated tasks.
* Conduct group sessions focused on education and exercise.
* Communicate and cooperate with patients, carers and other professionals in a sensitive and emotional environment requiring mature interpersonal skills.
* Perform departmental duties including clerical and administration tasks, stock maintenance, housekeeping.
* Ensure all therapy equipment and facilities are ready for use and comply with health and safety regulations.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care OR BTEC Professional Development Qualification for Support Workers (or relevant NVQ level 3).
* Relevant experience working as a Healthcare support worker in Therapy or another AHP department.
* General education level to GCSE or equivalent.
* Evidence of literacy and numeracy to Level 2 qualification.
Knowledge & Nature of Experience
* Basic resuscitation skills.
* Ability to work with others in a team.
* Evidence of ability to organise self and others.
* Able to take and follow instructions.
* Ability to observe and report changes.
* Self‑motivation.
* Problem‑solving skills.
* Previous experience working as a Therapy Assistant in therapy departments.
* Experience of training other staff.
* Wide range of experience in pelvic health conditions and related interventions.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
* Ability to use initiative and work independently.
Professional / Managerial / Specialist Knowledge
* Experience of working in MDT.
* Excellent IT skills and previous experience of using patient information systems or similar, in addition to Microsoft Office / Excel.
* Varied work experience of working with patients with sensitive and personal health needs.
* Educator / teaching skills.
* Specialist knowledge of therapy assessment and interventions and a desire to increase knowledge.
