Job Description
Overall Role Purpose: Complete assessments of applications to join the housing register, including re-registration to keep their applications up to date.
Assess households who do not qualify to register and provide advice about alternative housing options.
Assess households who qualify to register and activate their applications.
Determine for each application:
1. Their effective date (waiting time)
2. Level of preference
3. Any special factors affecting their application
Complete medical assessments of applications for preference on medical grounds.
Provide comprehensive housing advice on housing options for applicants.
Notify applicants of decisions on their applications.
Role Context
This position is vital for allocations processes affecting vulnerable customers, those in temporary accommodation, and those being supported into the private rented sector to prevent homelessness or discharge the housing duty.
This role requires good knowledge of the law relating to part VI of the Housing Act 1996 and other relevant legislation such as the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, the Children Act, the Care Act, and the Welfare Reform Act.
The post holder should be familiar with the Housing Allocations Policy, Code of Guidance, and Part VI of the Housing Act 1996 to work collaboratively with customers to find effective housing solutions proactively.
The role demands an innovative, dynamic, and solutions-focused approach, considering all available housing options to prevent homelessness.
The post holder will contribute to the ongoing development of the service and solutions for customers.
Operations and Support
Coordinate advertising of void properties with Choice Homes UK.
Allocate homes by analyzing shortlists and direct matching according to the Housing Allocations Scheme.
Verify applicant circumstances through checks and interviews, including financial, eligibility, local connection, and suitability assessments.
Select and nominate suitable applicants for available homes.
