Atkinson Secure Children's Home is a secure environment with excellent in-house facilities and rated 'Outstanding' by OFSTED. We provide a safe therapeutic home for young people from around the country who are at risk to themselves and others. You would be working as a Science teacher within the school, offering a bespoke, varied and exciting curriculum to prepare the young people for their next stage. You would work very closely with the care and health teams ensuring a holistic approach in the support of the young people.
Atkinson is a Secure Children's Home for up to eight young people, boys and girls aged between 10 - 17 years. The service is managed by Devon County Council providing full residential care, healthcare and education on site in dedicated facilities. We have been specialising in the welfare needs of young people nationally for over 30 years and young people are placed with us due to either having a history of absconding or are likely to abscond, likely to suffer significant harm or likely to injure themselves or others. Many of our young people have experienced significant trauma in their lives. Our home provides a positive, safe environment in which young people can thrive and build in confidence and self-esteem. All staff are trained in attachment theories and the trauma recovery model, and all interventions are psychologically informed. We work restoratively to help young people repair relationships and manage conflict.
The school is looking to appoint a qualified teacher of Science to join our team as soon as possible on a casual basis. The working pattern will be one morning per week (day to be confirmed) between the hours of - are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
This role requires a DBS disclosure.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
