About the division

Environmental and social considerations are central to Mott MacDonald’s purpose and offerings across all sectors and territories. Our environment and social business provides essential services and innovative solutions to meet our clients' needs across sectors.

Overview of role

The Environmental & Sustainability Services (ESS) team comprises over 130 professionals across 18 offices in the UK and Spain. The team works on diverse projects in sectors including water, defence, energy, ports/marine, rail, and urban development, serving clients such as local authorities, government agencies, utility companies, Network Rail, Grid, contractors, among others.

The team leads on coordinating, delivering, and managing environmental and sustainability workstreams throughout the project lifecycle, from business case development to supply chain procurement and construction. They advocate for environmental and social outcomes, embedding sustainability into decision-making processes, working closely with specialists, stakeholders, design teams, and clients.

As an account leader, you will provide technical leadership and advice on major UK infrastructure projects, develop relationships in the South West, and contribute to winning and delivering projects.

We seek an experienced Senior Consultant interested in working across a portfolio of projects to deliver environmental and sustainable outcomes.

Your typical responsibilities include:

* Leading EIA screening, scoping, and the production of Environmental Statements and reports.
* Coordinating input from multi-disciplinary environmental specialists.
* Managing programmes, resources, and budgets for environmental projects.
* Undertaking business development and proposal writing for environmental services.
* Engaging with clients and stakeholders.
* Mentoring and line managing team members.
* Opportunities exist to develop an environmental technical specialism alongside coordination roles.

Candidate specification

Essential criteria:

* Relevant academic/professional qualifications
* Chartership through a relevant institute
* Experience in EIA, UK environmental planning legislation, and local sustainability priorities
* Experience working with clients and influencing stakeholders
* Strong organisational, planning, and management skills with high-quality deliverables and budget management
* Experience leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams

Desirable criteria:

* Bid/tender experience, including developing cost and quality responses
* Experience with TWAO and/or DCO schemes, and sectors such as Water, Defence, Energy, Marine, Rail
* People management and staff development experience
* Confidence in delivering workshops and training online and in person
