Job Description

Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit! Work with our Simulation and Assessment team and contribute to essential projects within the nuclear sector. As a Stress Engineer you will apply your expertise in finite element analysis (FEA) to perform detailed assessments of nuclear components, ensuring compliance with design codes such as ASME III and RCC‑M. You will be involved in project planning, delivery, and reporting, and will communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including client technical leads. This role offers the opportunity to work both within client teams and from our Assystem offices, providing a variety of project experiences.


Your mission

* 📖 Desire to learn: Supported by an experienced team, you will develop skills and competencies across a range of projects and customers.
* 💻 Technical aptitude: Plan, undertake and report simulation and assessment projects using ANSYS or Abaqus FEA software, with calculations in MathCAD.
* 🌐 Digital first: Familiarity with typical engineering and data management software – document control, Product Lifecycle Management, MS Office, TEAMS, etc.
* 🤝 Collaborative: Work as part of a team, communicate effectively, and work independently where appropriate.
* 🚀 Delivery focused: Drive to achieve milestones and produce high‑quality outputs on time and within cost budgets.
* 💰 Commercially aware: Understand the commercial context of project delivery, managing requirements, change and technical risk.
* 🗓️ Organised & communicative: Organise and plan effectively, with excellent communication skills.
* 📝 Report writing: Write high‑quality, clear, concise, and accurate technical reports.

Qualifications

Essential

* 🔬 Excellent technical fundamentals – aptitude for calculations, appreciation of structures, mechanics and fluids, and ability to sense‑check analysis results.
* 🖥️ Hands‑on experience with computer‑based modelling codes such as Abaqus, ANSYS, Nastran, CFD, etc.
* 📜 Appreciation of code assessments in a safety‑related industry (ASME, RCC‑M, KTA or comparable codes).
* 🎓 Engineering degree (or equivalent).
* 🚗 Full UK driving licence and ability to travel within the UK.

Desirable / Preferred

* ⚛️ Previous experience in similar roles in the nuclear or fusion industry.
* 📐 Hands‑on experience with 3D modelling in CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, Catia or SolidWorks.
* 🌊 Experience with fluid modelling (CFD) or dynamic modelling (LS‑Dyna, Radioss).
* 📈 Working toward Chartered Engineer status.

Additional Requirements

* 🔒 BPSS and SC required.
* ✈️ Ability to travel Assystem offices and customer sites within the UK.
* ⚛️ Undertake work packages supporting major UK and international nuclear clients.

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
