Consultant Psychiatrist – Neurodevelopment Service

Job Summary The Consultant Psychiatrist will lead the Neurodevelopment Service (NDS) covering West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton (based at East Brighton Community Mental Health Centre) providing leadership to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care to adults with a suspected diagnosis of Autism; assessment and treatment for people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (Brighton and East Sussex only) and Tics and Tourette's. This is a new post developed to meet the need of transferring young people with ADHD from CAMHS to the adult NDS service.


Main Duties

* Assess patients for suspected neurodevelopmental conditions.
* Prescribe medication for newly diagnosed ADHD, titrate as required and handover prescribing to GPs according to shared care protocols, providing specialist follow‑up as outlined in NICE guidelines.
* Supervise and support the team’s non‑medical prescribers.
* Take a lead role in the MDT hub meeting and weekly whole‑team meeting.
* Build and nurture collaborative working relationships with colleagues in other services and divisions.

About Us Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides Neurodevelopmental Diagnostic Services for adults (NDS). The service operates across three hubs and has been running a weekly MDT clinic since 2009. Team members include senior clinical and honorary clinical academic psychiatrists who are leading experts in the field.

Person Specification – Essential

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.


Transport – Essential

* Holds and will use a valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.


Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience – Essential

* Excellent knowledge in specialty.
* Excellent clinical skills using bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.


Skills – Desirable

* Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.


Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning – Essential

* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Ability to work in and lead team.
* Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement.
* Participated in continuous professional development.
* Participated in research or service evaluation.
* Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
* Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
* Ability to work in a participatory way so that shared decision‑making and conversations around formulation/diagnosis and ongoing care are a collaborative endeavour with the people who access our service.
