Director of Joint Operations East Coast and LNER

Has there ever been a more exciting time to join LNER and Network Rail East Coast in leading our Operations teams – we doubt it! With preparations underway for Great British Railways the performance and operational safety of LNER and Network Rail are at the heart of track and train coming together so our customers get the best.
Our Director of Joint Operations is accountable for the safe and punctual operation of our services. As a member of our executive teams, you'll lead and direct your teams across the East Coast Main Line to ensure we maintain our industry leading performance and safety culture. You'll also be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the East Coast Mainline alongside your fellow Executive Directors as we move towards an integrated Great British Railways.
Responsibilities
* Working closely with your fellow Executive Directors to develop and deliver East Coast Main Line's delivery plan and vision. Identifying, assessing and informing the executive team of internal and external issues that may affect the organisation so you can lead together.
* Shaping the future of GBR by furthering the integration between LNER and Network Rail East Coast.
* Working in partnership across the industry, to ensure we are creating a seamless journey for all our customers, both passenger and freight.
* Leading the Operations Departments ensuring that the leadership and wider teams are set up to deliver our Services Agreement commitments, fulfil our license obligations and embrace change.
* Demonstrating collaborative leadership by actively role modelling behaviours that promote shared purpose, mutual respect, and joint accountability across both organisations.
* Creating a unified culture that improves performance, reduces subsidy and puts customers first, by breaking down silos, encouraging transparency, and removing barriers to collaborative working.
* Continuing to foster a modern, inclusive and high-performing leadership culture that encourages innovation, learning, and bold thinking.
* Bringing key track and train teams closer together, including drivers, signallers, control teams and other supporting functions.
* Ensuring there is the capability and resource across the organisation to respond effectively to disruption and emergency situations.
What you’ll need
* Experience of leading through change and operating in a dynamic and evolving environment
* The ability to operate at a strategic level across the businesses, and evidence of taking responsibility and accountability across directorates/business areas
* Highly developed influencing and negotiating skills at all levels, with evidence of influencing partnership working at a senior level; delivering positive customer outcomes
* Experience of leading in operational management in a safety critical or highly regulated industry
* Proven track record of the leadership of large multi-disciplinary teams of people within an operational environment inspiring accountability and responsibility.
* The ability to lead with influence beyond formal structures. Recognise the importance of influencing across organisational boundaries, building trust and alignment through relationships as well as hierarchy
* Sound commercial and financial awareness
