Maths Teacher – Functional Skills & Basic Maths (SEMH School)

Milk Education is recruiting a passionate, adaptable, and resilient Maths Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school in Congleton, delivering Functional Skills and basic Maths to pupils who require a highly supportive and structured learning environment.
This role is ideal for a teacher who understands that progress looks different in SEMH settings and who can inspire disengaged learners through practical, relatable, and confidence-building maths lessons.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver Functional Skills Maths and basic numeracy lessons tailored to pupils with SEMH needs.
2. Plan and adapt lessons to meet a wide range of abilities and learning styles.
3. Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour within the classroom.
4. Use creative, practical approaches to make Maths accessible and relevant to everyday life.
5. Track progress and adapt teaching strategies to support individual learning targets.
6. Work closely with support staff, pastoral teams, and SEN professionals.
7. Maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
Essential Requirements:
8. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or relevant teaching experience delivering Maths or Functional Skills.
9. Experience teaching Functional Skills Maths and/or basic Maths.
10. Previous experience within SEMH, SEN, alternative provision, or PRU settings (desirable).
11. Strong classroom management and behaviour-support skills.
12. Calm, patient, and resilient approach.
13. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
