About the Role
As an Outdoor Teaching Assistant (TA), you’ll support students in engaging with nature-based and hands-on learning experiences. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you’ll help deliver creative, practical lessons that foster curiosity, resilience, and personal growth. Your role will be key in helping students develop both academically and socially in an alternative, outdoor-focused environment.
About the school
The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
Key Responsibilities of Outdoor Teaching Assistant (TA)
Support Outdoor Learning: Assist in planning and delivering outdoor lessons and activities.
One-on-One and Group Support: Provide tailored support to students, helping them engage with learning in natural environments.
Encourage Positive Behaviour: Promote teamwork, independence, and respect through outdoor challenges and exploration.
Create a Safe Environment: Ensure all activities are conducted safely and inclusively.
Track Progress: Observe and report on student development and wellbeing.
Collaborate with Staff and Agencies: Work closely with teachers and external professionals to support holistic student development.
Requirements for Outdoor Teaching Assistant (TA)
Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational or outdoor setting.
A patient, empathetic, and enthusiastic approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
A passion for outdoor education and experiential learning.
Ideally need a valid driving license and be willing to drive.
Relevant training or qualifications in outdoor learning or education (desirable).
