As an integrated Trust, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT) delivers a comprehensive range of services, including:
* Primary and secondary mental health care for children and adults, including specialist inpatient child and adolescent mental health provision, perinatal mental health, and forensic services with low and medium secure care.
* Specialist mental health inpatient care for individuals with learning disabilities, alongside specialist community support for children and adults with learning disabilities and autism, including intensive support.
* Extensive community physical health and well-being services for children and adults, covering prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term condition management.
The Trust was first established in 2002 and employs approximately 7,500 staff who provide care from more than 400 sites. The organisation offers opportunities for medics, mental health, general nurses, children’s nurses, allied health professionals, psychology, administration and clerical staff, apprentices and volunteers, as well as those specialising in learning disabilities and community physical health services.
Responsibilities
You will be a member of the multi‑disciplinary memory assessment service team. You will participate in providing a comprehensive assessment to Service Users with cognitive difficulties using an agreed Memory Assessment Service assessment template.
The post will enable you to develop a knowledge and understanding of strategies and interventions in the treatment of dementia. You will be proficient in referring to other agencies within the service or referring to other services or agencies where necessary. You will confidently identify risk factors and action accordingly. You will provide a communication structure between GP’s and other services in LSCFT, non‑statutory services, as a means of ensuring highest possible standards of patient care. You will actively promote the Trust values within the MAS service and in accordance with the NMC / HPC code of conduct or other professional body. You will also be expected to actively contribute to the ongoing development of MAS.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Burnley Memory Assessment Service (MAS) as a Band 5 Medicines Management Nurse, supporting high‑quality, person‑centred care for individuals with suspected or diagnosed dementia.
You will work within a supportive, multidisciplinary team including medical staff, nurses, psychology, occupational therapy, and admin colleagues. The role focuses on safe medicines optimisation, including supporting the initiation, titration, and monitoring of dementia medications in line with NICE and Trust guidance.
You will also contribute to holistic assessment, risk identification, care planning, and patient/carer education, ensuring safe and effective treatment pathways. Strong communication and MDT working are essential, particularly in supporting interface working across MAS, primary care, and urgent services (e.g. IRS). EL MAS is a forward‑thinking, inclusive team with a strong focus on psychological safety, staff wellbeing, and continuous improvement.
We are looking for a motivated Registered Nurse with an interest in older adult mental health and dementia care, who is committed to delivering compassionate, safe, and high‑quality care.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse, Degree Level or equivalent knowledge and experience
* On‑going registration with professional body.
* Compliance with regulatory bodies and codes of professional conduct
Knowledge
* Knowledge of mental health problems including Cognitive problems and Dementia.
* Knowledge of issues that impact upon people with mental health problems.
* Knowledge of the impact of risk and protective factors that affect people with mental health problems.
Experience
* This post would be suitable for someone newly qualified or someone that is looking for experience in Memory Assessment Service or Older Adult Mental Health Services.
* Evidence of using assessment tools related to assessing mood, cognition and functioning.
* Evidence of assessment across a broad range of mental health problems
