Full time Healthcare Security Officer – Hospital Security Service
Overview
The University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) are recruiting Healthcare Security Officers to join a busy team based at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
Seeks individuals with a caring nature, capable of managing altered behaviours, de‑escalating agitated individuals, and working across three sites: Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide a 24‑hour security presence across all hospital areas, offering a high‑profile, visible service to patients, visitors and staff.
* Record all security incidents and complete appropriate documentation via computer or written paperwork.
* Respond to challenging/traumatic security incidents, including distressed, violent or aggressive persons, often using verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
* Monitor CCTV in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and UHL policy.
* Arming and disarming intruder alarms; monitor and report critical and medical alarms; alert relevant staff to emergency situations.
* Take a leading role in fire alarm procedures.
* De‑escalate individuals who disclose complex, sensitive and contentious information, using empathy and persuasive communication to achieve positive outcomes.
* In some cases, detain patients against their will under the guidance of clinical personnel where appropriate.
* Use physical effort when required, balancing enforcement with empathy and listening skills.
Patient & Customer Service
Ensure consistently high standards of customer service are delivered within the security service, engaging with patients, visitors and staff to provide directions, information and support.
Key Working Relationships
* Internal relationships with other security officers and administrative staff.
* Internal relationships with hospital staff, departmental managers and ward‑based staff.
* Close relationships with patients, visitors and contractors.
* Close links with police and other emergency services.
