About Us

Following the successful promotion of the previous postholder to a role in another of our multi-academy trust’s academies, we are looking to appoint an ambitious and highly effective leader to support Arnold Hill Spencer in its drive to deliver the very best education for our most vulnerable learners.

You will be joining a refreshed and forward-looking team that are hungry for improvement. This specific role will assume responsibility for inclusion and the strategic and operational delivery of learning support across the school. The successful candidate will be part of the senior leadership team of the school, supporting the development of positive culture amongst all sub-groups of learners. Inclusive practice was highlighted as a strength in the academy’s most recent Ofsted inspection report, and Arnold Hill Spencer staff are keen to embrace inclusive and adaptive teaching strategies.

We Are Looking For a Leader Who Has


* Excellent inter-personal skills
* Proven experience of leadership within inclusion and SEND
* Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements
* A passion for equity, social justice, and inclusive education
* Experience of working with families and external agencies

We will particularly welcome applications from candidates who have the National Award for SEN Coordination, but will also be interested in dynamic and ambitious applicants who have the willingness to complete this qualification upon appointment.

Desired Criteria

National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete)

Experience supporting students with complex medical or SEMH needs

Experience of working with families, external agencies, and multi-disciplinary teams

Recognised leadership qualification, i.e. NPQSL, NPQH

Good use of new technologies as a tool for learning

Essential Criteria

Qualified Teacher Status

Qualified SENDCo or willingness to be enrolled to gain the SENDCO qualification

Good Honours degree

Evidence of appropriate professional development

Proven track record of excellent classroom practice, including adaptive teaching strategies and inclusive practice

Proven experience of leadership within inclusion and SEND

Deep understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements

A passion for equity, social justice, and inclusive education

A clear educational philosophy

Ability to see the big picture, think strategically and maintain a hands- on approach

Understanding of educational developments

Good knowledge and understanding of pedagogy and how to help students learn, effective learning strategies and the ability to apply this to everyday teaching

Good understanding of effective guidance and pastoral systems

Effective leader – commands respect e.g. assemblies

Ability to support others with behaviour management strategies

Commitment to and ability to raise achievement for all

Proven track record of raising academic standards, good examination results and delivery against targets

Experience of implementing a range of effective intervention strategies

Able to use data to inform teaching, for target setting and improving performance

Role model as excellent classroom practitioner – capable of delivering consistently good to outstanding lessons, using a range of teaching and learning strategies and using effective behaviour management

A student centred, inclusive, positive, “can do” approach to learning

Proven track record of improving teacher performance

Committed to ensuring excellent standards of behaviour at all times

Strong emphasis on relevance to the world of teaching

Excellent lesson evaluation skills

Experience of monitoring and evaluating classroom practice through regular observations

Excellent leadership and management including interpersonal, communication, organisational, administrative and ICT skills

Ability to lead, provide the big picture and whole school perspective and command respect

Highly motivated and able to motivate and inspire staff and students Ability to lead, support, develop and motivate teams
