Kent is seeking a Lead Safety Engineer responsible for coordinating engineering deliverables and providing progress reports for projects in accordance with the project plan. The role involves working as a Lead Safety Engineer reporting to the project engineering manager on various project phases such as feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design, or EPC. The engineer will undertake specific tasks based on the project's size and complexity, supervise other engineers, and communicate technical issues impacting the project. The position typically reports to the Project Engineering Manager, with a corporate line to the Departmental or Group Manager. The company follows a hybrid working model, requiring four days a week in the Woking office. Skills & Responsibilities:
Lead safety engineering activities across FEED and detailed design projects. Support the preparation of Process Safety TDR and execute tasks within the project plan. Identify and resolve discrepancies from the original proposal or contract. Manage project schedule and manpower budget. Prepare progress reports and support bidding processes. Ensure compliance with ISO QMS and project standards. Provide guidance on process safety, fire safety, and risk management. Review and approve deliverables from other safety engineers. Ensure quality of safety deliverables and supervise task delegation. Participate in audits, incident investigations, and safety workshops such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL studies. Review safety studies like FERA, QRA, ESSA, RAM. Coordinate with other offices and manage external HSE consultants. Evaluate tenders and assess bids for safety equipment. Perform safety calculations using software like PHAST, Flaresim, FRED. Design fire protection systems and review related drawings and calculations. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards. Maintain expertise in safety engineering methodologies and software. Support personal development in safety engineering. Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in chemical engineering or a postgraduate safety qualification, with Chartered status preferred. Experience in oil & gas and new energy sectors, familiarity with international standards, safety software, and UK safety regulations are required. Strong communication skills and core competencies such as proactivity, attention to detail, and teamwork are essential.
