* Inform system design based on how the user will deploy the product.
* Define system architecture, interfaces, behaviour and flow‑down requirements.
* Develop models and simulations to inform and define system design, behaviour or performance.
* Provide technical guidance and leadership in optimising the design through system trades, analyses and prototyping.
* Diagnose complex system faults found during integration and test.
* Define verification activities and assess evidence to ensure the delivered product is compliant with requirements.
* Capture design decisions and rationale in associated models, specifications and other technical artefacts.
* Lead the system design through the defined engineering process and design reviews.
* Work within the project leadership team to deliver design on time, within budget and quality constraints.
* Perform the role of Design Authority on a project, taking ownership of the solution.
