We are seeking an experienced Senior Health & Safety professional to lead our organisation's H&S strategy, compliance, and culture across a workforce of approximately 500 employees in the UK, including a light manufacturing environment and a small number of low-risk international field service staff. This role ensures that our people, sites, and operations meet the highest standards of safety, legal compliance, and risk management. This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days a week based across our Ely and Cambridge sites.
We’d expect you to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the Health and Sustainability remit that helps the team deliver its objectives.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert H&S leadership across office, global field operations, and UK light manufacturing operations, ensuring proportionate and practical safety controls in each environment. Manage budget and resources accordingly.
* Develop, implement, and continually improve the organisation's Health & Safety strategy, policies, and management systems in line with UK legislation (e.g. Health and Safety At Work Act, COSHH, PUWER, RIDDOR, etc.) and coordinate international requirements where needed.
* Lead comprehensive UK H&S governance activities including risk assessments, safe systems of work, incident investigations, audits, and follow-up action tracking. Coordinate international communication of these.
* Oversee safety for manufacturing processes, including machinery safety, manual handling, and workplace layout considerations.
* Support international field-based operations with appropriate training and risk assessments.
* Drive a safety culture of proactive compliance through engagement, coaching, and effective training programmes.
* Maintain H&S performance metrics, KPIs, dashboards, reporting regularly to senior leadership and communicating with CMR as a whole.
* Manage relationships with regulators (including HSE), insurers, auditors, and industry bodies.
* Support emergency planning and business continuity considerations related to H&S.
Qualifications & Key Competencies
* Excellent influencing, communication, and coaching capabilities.
* Proven ability to build and embed a strong, positive safety culture.
* Comfortable working at both strategic and hands‑on levels.
* Practitioner-level IOSH membership or Chartered (e.g., CMIOSH or working toward).
* Experience in a senior H&S role within the UK, including direct experience working with manufacturing or factory environments.
* Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation, practical risk management, and safety systems in mixed operational settings.
* Experience supporting multi-site or global field-based teams; international exposure beneficial but not essential.
