We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join us working in Cardiothoracic Surgery on Chesterman Wards 3 and 4.
The advanced clinical practitioner will be an autonomous, accountable practitioner working on their own initiative and in collaboration with medical, nursing, and allied health professional colleagues as required.
The post holder will also play a key role within the service / department by supporting specific elements of service improvement, audit and research as well as having an active on-going role in the development, supervision, training and assessment of junior medical colleagues and NMAHPs.

The role will be structured around the four core functions of advanced practice:
1. Expert clinical practice (with a minimum clinical focus of 80%).
2. Professional leadership and consultancy.
3. Education, training and development of self and others.
4. Practice and service development, research, and evaluation.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
5. Registered Nurse with Valid NMC registration or Health Care Professional and registered with HCPC with relevant clinical experience.
6. Willing and able to successfully complete a full Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice - which may be via the apprenticeship route.
7. Post Graduate qualification in Advanced Practice.
8. Advanced Physical Assessment module, Non-Medical Prescribing (if part of proposed role).
9. Advanced life support qualification (ALS/ILS) or willingness to undertake.
10. Evidence of relevant continuous professional development.
Desirable criteria
11. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 or equivalent experience.
12. Recognised Leadership Award/qualification or equivalent experience.
Experience
Essential criteria
13. Experience of working in cardiothoracic or cardiology care
14. Experience of working in an extended role with experience of autonomous practice.
15. Evidence of portfolio of practice and sign off of competence.
16. Experience of delivering training / education to others.
Desirable criteria
17. Experience of undertaking service improvement activity.
18. Evidence of contribution to audit and research programs.
19. Experience of training, supervising and assessing competence of junior colleagues (medical staff / ACP's / NMAHPs).
20. Clinical / managerial leadership experience, including line management of staff, e.g., sickness/absence, recruitment/selection.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
21. In depth knowledge of pathophysiology of common conditions seen in the speciality and their management.
22. Able to analyse and synthesise patient information to formulate appropriate diagnoses and management plans.
23. High standard of written and verbal communication - able to present and receive complex information and communicate effectively with all grades of staff and patients / families.
24. Can prioritise and manage own workload and support junior personnel in managing theirs when faced with conflicting pressures.
25. Ability to manage self and maintain professional conduct in difficult and challenging situations.
Desirable criteria
26. Effective leadership, negotiation and reasoning skills with the ability to influence, coach and motivate others.
27. Knowledge and experience of bespoke advanced practice appraisal processes e.g., Practitioner E-Portfolio & CASP".
28. Excellent presentation skills.
