About the Role
We are looking to appoint a Civil Engineering Technical Director in our Flood, Coast & Maritime (FCM) Redhill team to lead the technical delivery of complex projects. As a recognised key internal reference point you will provide specialist technical leadership of the FCM Redhill engineering team, and as required to our wider network of Civil Engineers, both in Flood, Coast & Environment and Water Services business lines.
Key Responsibilities
Project execution
* Accountable for managing engineering design-related aspects of highly complex project(s) or small multiple projects including engineering schedule and budget performance, quality of engineering solutions and deliverables, and coordination of design, procurement, and construction.
* Manage multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects to produce high-quality project deliverables, ensuring they meet client specifications. Responsible for coordinating project schedules for multiple disciplines.
* Orchestrates all technical aspects of highly complex projects and makes project engineering execution decisions within the bounds set by applicable policies, standards, guides and contract commitments. Establishes work plan to be applied to a given project.
* Responsible for determining identification of key client interests and drivers on projects. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on complex projects. May offer other services to the client. Typically provides support to business development or pursuit activities.
* Collaborate with Delivery Managers and Project Managers to ensure smooth execution and commercial success of projects
Technical expertise
* Serves as a technology leader and recognised as a Company/industry expert within a discipline or speciality. May develop innovative solutions critical to company success.
* Provides thought leadership and set policies impacting all projects. Identifies technical skill gaps and mitigation plans. Determines technical training content. Drives knowledge management and knowledge sharing approach. Influences the technical engineering culture throughout the Flood, Coast & Maritime team.
Leadership

* Supports supervision, career development, training and mentoring of the FCM Redhill engineering team, and as required the wider FCM and Water Services teams.
* Strongly influences and implements resource management strategies including staffing, recruiting, skills assessment, identification of training needs and resolving resource conflicts.
Required Attributes
The role is suitable for an individual with a proven track record in civil engineering and coordination of the delivery of complex projects within the Flood and Coast sector, and a desire to leave a positive legacy through the development of other professionals. You should possess, and be able to demonstrate, the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
* Professional engineering qualification with the ICE, CIWEM, or similar body – preferably at Fellowship level.
* A wealth of experience in the appraisal and design of major projects in the Flood and Coast sector.
* Collaborative individual that effectively builds and leads multi-disciplinary teams producing high-quality deliverables on time, within budget, whilst identifying and mitigating risks and change.
* Proven ability to lead the civil engineering design of complex projects in the Flood & Coast sector meeting client and stakeholder expectations, with a proactive approach to problem solving as an individual and as part of a team.
* Demonstrated customer-facing success in the technical delivery of projects, presenting technical solutions effectively, including management of day-to-day relationships with regards to technical delivery, and brokering agreements between conflicting requirements.
* Excellent communicator with internal and external clients and stakeholders to develop business relationships.
* Knowledge and experience of working with the NEC suite of contracts, in particular the PSC and ECC. Ability to prepare construction contract packages for complex projects identifying and mitigating construction risks for the successful delivery of projects.
* A focus on sustainable solutions, supporting natural resource management and the journey towards net zero.
* Experience with site construction to enhance design buildability.
* Strong attention to detail in delivering project outcomes.
* Experience in developing business cases and preferred options using FCERM Appraisal Guidance.
* Pastoral care and staff management experience.
