Overview

Police Constable AFO - Relocating to Dounreay at Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC). Permanent, full-time role (40 hours per week) with a salary range £31,164 - £50,256 per annum (dependent on previous service) and a generous benefits package.


Responsibilities

* Serve as an Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO) at Dounreay, providing a 24/7 armed response, patrolling and protecting nuclear sites, facilities and materials, and patrolling local communities.
* Work with local Home Office Police Forces as part of the CNC’s operations, including involvement in the Strategic Armed Policing Reserve and deployments such as Operation Temperer when required.
* Train and maintain fitness within allocated working hours; participate in CNC training programmes and, if applicable, undertake condensed training if already AFO/ARV trained.
* Adhere to the CNC Values and Code of Ethics and uphold high professional standards at all times.
* Potential progression opportunities after probation, including roles in specialist areas such as Dog Handler, Special Branch, Firearms Instructor or Strategic Escort Group Officer.


Requirements / Qualifications

* Full manual driving licence and have satisfactorily passed probation with current or previous force.
* Successful candidates may be relocated; a relocation allowance of up to £5,000 is available to assist with moving costs, assessed on a case-by-case basis.
* Eligible to join the CNC and complete the Authorised Firearms training programme (19 weeks standard; condensed 4-week programme if already trained).


Training and Relocation

* Upon joining, you will undergo CNC training at one of our centres; initial local training options are discussed to align with relocation needs.
* Training includes dedicated time for study and fitness; local Caithness courses are offered annually, with the first week in Oxfordshire.


Working Pattern

Your standard pattern is a 4-day or night 12-hour shift cycle (4 days/nights on, 4 days/nights off). Time allocated within shifts is set aside for training and fitness maintenance.
