Fire Engineer - Structural Fire Engineering

The Opportunity
We are seeking a Structural Fire Engineer to join a well-established engineering team delivering complex steelwork projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the design and delivery of passive fire protection solutions for some of the country\'s most impressive steel structures.
You\'ll work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment that supports technical development and long-term career growth. The role offers exposure to a wide range of intumescent paint systems, steel limiting temperatures, and fire resistance design, ensuring structures meet the highest safety standards and comply with relevant codes and best practices.
Responsibilities
* Prepare fire protection strategies in accordance with BS and EN standards
* Carry out fire engineering calculations to determine steel limiting temperatures and fire resistance periods
* Specify and assess intumescent paint systems, including DFT requirements
* Produce and review technical fire engineering reports and submissions
* Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate fire protection into designs
* Support tendering and project delivery of passive fire protection systems
* Liaise with suppliers to review fire test data and certification
Performance Objectives
* Ensure all designs comply with applicable regulations, standards, and project requirements
* Maintain accurate registers and documentation of design deliverables
* Work closely with project teams to support successful delivery strategies
* Continuously improve fire engineering methodologies, workflows, and technical processes
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Structural Engineering or Fire Safety Engineering (Master\'s preferred)
* Associate or Chartered membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers (or equivalent) advantageous
* Strong experience in fire resistance design, DFT calculations, and relevant standards (Eurocodes, BS 5950 Part 8, EN #removed#)
Skills & Attributes
* Proficiency with fire engineering software (e.g. FDE, FBEAM, Ozone)
* Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills
* Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving ability
* Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
* Interest in using spreadsheets, scripts, or computational tools to improve efficiency
