Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and friendly Dietetic service working across the Borough of Waltham Forest. It is a WTE job share as a Highly Specialist Dietitian (the other WTE post holder takes primary responsibility for diabetes within our service). The successful candidate for this section of the job will be expected to offer good experience in diabetes or another clinical specialism such as care of the elderly, prescribing support, diabetes or HEF.
This job share role is split across a clinical caseload and the management responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will offer a clinical specialism in Dietetics - such as care of the elderly, prescribing support, diabetes or HEF - and provide a clinical service in that area.
They will take primary responsibility for the management responsibilities of the band 7 role. This includes, but not restricted to, the management and balancing of workload of the adult team of Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants, currently 7 people. They will have oversight of new graduates preceptorship programme. In addition, the successful candidate will take primary responsibility for liaison with Dietetic student providers, drawing up of student timetables and the monitoring of their progress.
The post holder will have responsibility for the co-ordination and alignment of the care pathways of the team and is expected to contribute to the development and extension of the skills of the department - including the uptake of digital technologies.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being
properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters
will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will
undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which
will include mandatory training, systems training and the
allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will
have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior
managers, and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on
engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The
induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

This post will be subject to a probationary period.
High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15%of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941 - per annum, pro rata for part time
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Leadership
1. Attend and contribute to department and other relevant meetings.
2. Prepare for and contribute to appraisal, supervision and CPD processes.
3. Undertake defined recruitment activities for junior dietetic staff and/or admin staff
4. To facilitate the development of a positive and ‘supportive’ team culture by ensuring own behaviour is in line with the NELFT Civility & Respect handbook.
5. To participate in any audit processes linking in with the clinical governance agenda.
6. ·To critically evaluate and share knowledge from the latest research to support the development of evidence-based, culturally appropriate patient education and information materials, using digital whenever possible.
7. To support new staff and their integration within the team.
8. To carry out any reasonable management instruction.
Clinical Skills
9. To be responsible, and accountable, for adult service delivery to clients/patients.
10. Ensure practice is supported by research, is evidence-based and culturally appropriate.
11. Advise healthcare professionals & patients appropriately, concerning patients’ nutrition and dietetic management, and attend relevant meetings and case conferences.
12. Able to implement nutritional assessment tools and be able to train dietetic and non-dietetic students.
Computer/Administration
13. To be computer literate and encourage implementation of the Trust’s IT policy.
14. To ensure accurate recording of actions, and updating patient’s records, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
15. To plan and administer the day to day running of the caseload.
Communication
16. To have a wide range of knowledge in approaches to communicating and managing patients and their carers.
17. To effectively communicate with colleagues, peers, senior managers and clinical leads within the Trust.
18. Undertake audit within own area, communicate and present findings to a variety of groups including in formal settings.
Training
19. To ensure own continued professional development and support a culture of lifelong learning in others.
20. Provide guidance, support and supervision to the adult Dietitians.
21. Providing feedback to the adult team members of staff, advising on complex nutritional cases, developing clinical reasoning and mentoring.
22. To develop schedules for Dietetic student’s placements and negotiate it with the adult team.
23. Providing support and facilitate the development of students.
