Overview
An exciting opportunity for an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our Stem Cell and Cellular Therapy Laboratory. The role is highly specialised within an established Haematology/Oncology stem cell transplant and cellular therapy programme. Working in an HTA‑licensed and JACIE‑accredited laboratory you will help deliver an essential clinical service supporting patients receiving haematopoietic stem cell transplants and advanced cellular therapies.
Responsibilities
* Receive harvested cells from the apheresis department or from theatres.
* Receive frozen products from cord banks or other transplant centres.
* Receive fresh cells collected from donor centres around the world.
* Conduct receipt, testing, processing, cryopreservation, storage and issue of cellular therapy products.
* Work within clean room and controlled laboratory environments.
* Support the handling, storage and issue of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (e.g., CAR‑T and TIL therapies).
* Maintain compliance with HTA, JACIE and internal quality management requirements.
* Participate in cleaning, environmental monitoring, documentation, audits, equipment monitoring and quality improvement activities.
* Maintain the cryogenic facility and perform regular environmental testing of the clean room.
* Ensure traceability of cells from donor to recipient, working with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
* Liaise with stem cell transplant programme clinical and ward staff, and collaborate closely with colleagues in Immunophenotyping, Microbiology and pathology.
* Work with other healthcare scientists, clinical teams, nurses, pharmacists and transplant coordinators.
Qualifications
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Commitment to quality, safety and highly regulated procedures.
* Ability to work accurately and with attention to detail.
* Previous experience in stem cell transplantation, cellular therapy, transfusion, haematology, immunology, histocompatibility, clean room work, GMP environments or other relevant diagnostic laboratory settings is advantageous but not essential.
* Full training will be provided to candidates with the right scientific background, attention to detail and commitment to patient‑focused care.
