Company Accountant (Cross-Border SME) Location: East Belfast Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience Company Overview Our client, a regulated SME operating across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, have a brand-new requirement for a full time Company Accountant. With a focus on statutory compliance, recurring revenue, and operational efficiency, we seek to appoint a pragmatic Company Accountant to lead day-to-day finance operations and support monthly reporting cycles. Role Purpose: To manage financial control, statutory compliance, and cross-border accounting processes. The Company Accountant will prepare monthly close-off schedules and management accounts for review by the Group Finance Manager, while mentoring one team member and maintaining audit-defensible workflows. The role includes full responsibility for payroll preparation. Key Responsibilities Financial Control & Reporting Prepare monthly close-off schedules and management accounts for review Maintain general ledger accuracy and reconcile bank accounts Prepare and process payroll for all staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance Manage VAT returns (UK and ROI), PAYE, and corporation tax submissions via HMRC and ROS portals Maintain and reconcile sales and purchase ledgers Support year-end accounts and liaise with external accountants Compliance & Statutory Duties Ensure timely and accurate filings with Companies House and CRO Monitor and interpret cross-border tax and regulatory changes Maintain documentation for director appointments and statutory notifications Uphold GDPR compliance and internal financial controls A full job spec es available upon request Essential Skills & Experience Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) Experience in SME finance, ideally with cross-border exposure Strong understanding of UK and ROI tax regimes, payroll, and statutory filings Proficient in Sage and Excel, with experience in structured reporting Confident in using HMRC and ROS portals for submissions and compliance Excellent communication and documentation skills Desirable Attributes Experience in regulated industries Familiarity with FRS 102 and audit-defensible reporting For more information and a full job description, apply here or contact Laurence Jago at Reed Belfast.
