About the Job you are considering

We are seeking a hands‑on AWS Solutions Architect, preferably with strong Commercial Insurance experience, to join us as a Tech Lead. You will work alongside other leads to drive the architectural vision for the Underwriting Policies domain. This is not just a diagramming role – we are hands‑on technologists. You must be able to understand technology integrated across many different external teams, dive into existing code, validate design assumptions, and formulate strategies for change and improvement. You will coach offshore development and DevOps teams to deliver on these strategies while leading by example. In this role you will be responsible for the Discovery phase of the defined Engagement Model of the software lifecycle, taking vague business requirements, identifying the technical path forward, navigating the Architecture Review Board (ARB), and handing off a shovel‑ready architectural blueprint to delivery teams.

Hybrid working

The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.

Your Role

Architectural Discovery Strategy Lead technical discovery for complex underwriting initiatives bridging the gap between Business Analysts, Dependency Management, and Engineering. Align with North Star enterprise architectures that balance immediate business needs with long‑term enterprise standards. Navigate the LII Architecture Review Board (ARB) process, presenting designs and securing approval for patterns, technologies, and integration strategies.

Hands‑on Design Prototyping Design and prototype cloud‑native solutions on AWS, specifically leveraging Serverless technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, API Gateway). Write Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) using AWS CDK with both Python and TypeScript to prove out concepts and create standardized artifacts for delivery teams. Design event‑driven integration patterns hub‑and‑spoke using our internal orchestration and eventing platforms. Demonstrate Tech Lead knowledge and the ability to coach offshore teams on AWS Observability, Python, and TypeScript best practices.

Governance Standards Ensure solutions comply with our Disaster Recovery standards. Enforce security best practices, including Auth0 for identity management and rigorous secrets management. Collaborate with DevOps to ensure architectural designs are compatible with GitHub Actions pipelines and our internal developer platform CloudForge. Create Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans aligned with LM enterprise architecture and governance. Produce threat models and other security assessments aligned with LM enterprise architecture and governance. Assess data compliance and personal information across different regulatory regions.

Operate and Support Live Production Systems We operate following DevOps principles: you build it, you run it. You will be expected to lead the support of systems in production. Understand production security mechanisms and protocols over a multicloud architecture composed of AWS, Azure, and GCP. Ensure observability best practices and regulatory compliance (e.g., EU DORA) using cloud tools like Datadog, Splunk, and BigPanda. Provide support during production incidents, investigations, and timely fixes.
