Role Title: Editorial Coordinator / Senior Editorial Coordinator (Journals) Team: Editorial & Publishing Team Reporting to: Publisher Location: Both hybrid and remote considered Role Description / Purpose Reporting to the Publisher and working closely with other Editorial staff, the Editorial Coordinator will focus on content commissioning and acquisition, strategic journal development, peer review, production, and Editorial Board management. The role also offers the opportunity to take on journal management responsibilities, contributing more broadly to the success and efficiency of the publishing process. Scale & Scope The scope of the role encompasses the production and publication of journals under the Radcliffe Cardiology imprint. The role holder will coordinate content across six journals, with ultimate ownership remaining with the Publisher. Accountabilities & Impact Support the standardisation of editorial workflows and drive process efficiencies. Provide support to journal editors, authors, and reviewers as required. Contribute to journal growth through author/editor engagement, editor recruitment, themed article collections, and commissioning individual manuscripts. Execute editorial strategies and contribute to initiatives that ensure a consistent content pipeline. Take the editorial lead on journal management tasks as assigned by the Publisher. Track and process manuscript permissions, including clearance and rights management. Maintain and update databases related to authors, content, and editorial activities. Conduct outreach calls and confidently engage with editors and authors. Manage author/reviewer correspondence, including amendment and resubmission requests. Support editors with report preparation, including data collection, research, and administrative tasks such as contract support and minute-taking. Provide cover during staff absences as required. Attend academic conferences, when necessary, which may involve international travel. Monitor submissions, pipelines, and turnaround times, and support initiatives to meet journal performance targets (e.g. submission growth, processing speed, citation impact). Coordinate author video recordings to promote manuscripts and special collections. Support editors with marketing preparation, including newsletters, press releases, social media content, and promotional materials. Key Relationships Publisher Internal teams (Editorial, Marketing, Production) External stakeholders (Authors, Editors, Clinicians) Requirements Knowledge Demonstrable understanding of editorial and production processes (ideally open access) and how journals serve the research community. (Essential) Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in the fields of biology, health or life sciences. (Desirable) Skills and Experience Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work effectively and deal with competing priorities. (Essential) Excellent grasp of written and spoken English, spelling and grammar. (Essential) 1-2 years of publishing experience (preferably in STM publishing). (Essential) Experience of electronic editorial management systems. (Desirable) Experience working in a fast-paced office environment and experience using MS Office. (Essential) An understanding of rights, permissions and publishing ethics. (Desirable) Ability to work with physicians for manuscript production, publication, creation of associated filmed interviews. (Desirable) Some copywriting experience for marketing comms / page copy creation. (Desirable)
