Band 7 An annex 21 development post will be considered with individual competencies and development plan being agreed on appointment.
The RCDS Clinical Nurse Specialist post is an extremely rewarding role, with the opportunity to support diagnosis, manage and care for people who have symptoms concerning for cancer but do not display specific tumour site red flags.
Applications are invited from professional registered nurses who demonstrate compassion, empathy, have excellent communication and organisational skills, and experience in caring for patients with complex needs in a relevant clinical setting.
The CNS will facilitate MDT working across professional boundaries in health and social care settings, including within the regional cancer network, to provide a direct clinical service to patients, work independently to organise appropriate investigations and participate in developing the service model; with the intention to partially cover GP Lead leave when required clinical competencies within the new role have been met. Compassion, empathy, excellent communication, organisational and assessment skills are essential for the role.
The Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service was introduced to NHS Borders in 2022 and is part of a national initiative to improve the journey of patients with ‘vague but concerning symptoms, suggestive of cancer’, aiming to see, investigate and diagnose patients within 21 days of referral. Scottish Government are committed to working with Health Boards to embed rapid cancer diagnoses pathways by providing year on year funding. Current funding will be reviewed early next year and as such the post is advertised as a fixed term contract until the end of March 2026.
