Job Overview
The Software Engineering Professional supports the execution of the software engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross‑functional project and technical delivery. The role is part of a specialist security team trusted by governments worldwide to protect critical national infrastructure.
Location and Working Arrangements
The role can be based in Cheltenham or Manchester and is onsite (five days a week, Monday‑Friday 9am‑5pm). Full‑time is standard, but part‑time, job‑share or other flexible arrangements are encouraged.
Reasonable adjustments for the selection process are available if required.
Security Clearance
Eligibility to obtain DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance is required. Applicants must have lived in the UK for 10+ years. An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while holding this clearance and continuing in the role.
Responsibilities
* Supports the design and development of software solutions in accordance with the wider architecture and security standards
* Supports the execution of technical decisions, technology choices and architecture for a wide range of high‑performance products, capabilities, and platforms, effectively balancing short‑term impact with long‑term transformation
* Maintains systems by monitoring and correcting software defects
* Supports the implementation and maintenance of high‑quality tools and automation processes to support continuous delivery and developer productivity
* Writes, tests and reviews code, refining and rewriting as necessary under supervision and communicates to engineering professionals and colleagues involved in the project

* The various phases of the software test lifecycle such as FAT, SAT, UAT, Integration
* Different test techniques such as black box, white box, soak, performance

* Dev‑Ops
* Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD)
* Evidence of testing on multiple platforms such as Linux and Windows and within different languages – Python, Ansible, Mongo, XML, VB, Java, C#, .Net, HTML, AngularJS, JSON, C++, SQL/MySQL/NoSQL, Mongo, Git, Docker, Kubernetes
* API, Stub and Harness Testing
