Director – Strategic Planning & Execution
The Director – Strategic Planning & Execution is a key role which partners with the VP – Oncology Translational Research to maximize the impact and effectiveness of this role and senior leadership roles within the Oncology Translational Research team by:
* Providing thought partnership, acting as a sounding board, constructive challenger and taking on special translational oncology projects as requested.
* Providing strategic oversight of external collaborations, particularly with academic partners, delivering innovation and adoption of new technology.
* Ensure connectivity and driving synergies between Oncology Translational Research Unit and other organizations within the Oncology TA. Establish clear and effective communication channels during the different phases of biomarker model development, to understand the requirements for eventual biomarker validation through Clinical Trials.
* Act as Secretariat for the Translational Research Leadership Team, responsible for developing the agenda and general preparation of LT meetings and ensuring these are focused to deliver Oncology TA objectives.
* Foster people, culture, and engagement across the Oncology Translational Research team.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Proactively partner with VP – Oncology Translational Research and their Leadership Team to identify and scope line strategy, plan to execute line strategy and associated business change plans as appropriate, in support of overall enterprise objectives.
* Effectively communicate with EMU at every stage of multidisciplinary biomarker development to ensure measurable biomarker parameters are compatible with future clinical validation.
* Interface with the OCTC (based on the successful collaboration model established between the Digital Biological Twin Unit and King’s College London Comprehensive Cancer Centre) and lead establishment of new partnerships with academic departments globally. Work with Associate Director – External Innovation and Partnerships to develop/establish a pathway for evaluating new technology.
* Identifying and evaluating partnering opportunities and opportunities for innovation in line with the Oncology Therapy Area and Product Area Leadership teams (PALT) strategy
* Serve as Secretariat for the leadership team. Drive and contribute to the process of planning Leadership Team Meetings including agendas, key participants, stakeholders, and tracking decisions and actions.
* Facilitate the process to maximize resource utilization by aligning portfolio demands to capacity and capability.
* Partner with HR to develop and implement the Oncology Translational Research Strategic Workforce Plan.
* Understand and be able to influence the environment outside of the line organization to support achievement of its objectives.
* Lead, manage, mentor and coach a small team of strategy, innovation, and externalization professions.

Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
* PhD in Life Sciences such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, pharmacology, oncology, translational medicine, biostatistics, immunology.
* Experience and cross functional knowledge of the cancer biomarker development and validation/qualification pathway.
* Experience and cross functional knowledge in oncology methodologies, processes, or business operations or with external partners.
* Experience in delivery of large multi-stakeholder projects in translational cancer research.
* Experience with managing budgets and proven financial management and analytical skills to underpin strategic financial decisions and procedure.
* Experience identifying and resolving issues and hurdles.
* Experience successfully achieving complex outcomes, prioritizing demand, and removing barriers.
* Experience leading a line or matrix team driving scientific performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
* Substantial experience in translational project management.
* Project Management certification.
* Good understanding of GLP and HTA.
* A proven ability to persuade and influence.
* Results-orientation and drive to set and reach challenging goals, high standards for performance.
* Must be curious and able to engage at all levels within and external to the line to create a rich and alternative perspective to the teams that they support.
* Must be able to constructively challenge and influence with mastery, credibly engaging with key stakeholders within R&D and GSK but also with experts in the external environment.
