What will you be doing?
School governors are responsible for the strategic management of a school, making decisions on various issues. Governing boards include representatives from the school, parents, local authority, and community.
The core responsibilities include:
* Ensuring accountability
* Acting as a ‘critical friend’ to the Head Teacher
* Monitoring and evaluating school progress
* Managing budgets
* Planning and overseeing school improvement initiatives
* Setting school aims and values
* Appointing senior staff, including the Head Teacher
* Participating in committees focused on areas like finance or pupil achievement, which meet separately from the main board and report back in full meetings
