Team Leader – Environmental Health Food/ H&S

Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm
6-month ongoing contract
Role Purpose
In this role, you will support the existing team leader to manage the Food and H&S team. You will oversee the team to deliver our food hygiene and standards inspection programme, investigate complaints related to food and health & safety matters, and assist with other functions including health & safety at work, accident investigations, and infectious disease control. Your responsibilities include providing expert advice on complex cases, directing daily operations, conducting 121s, and managing HR functions to ensure performance and service delivery.
Responsibilities
1. Lead and coordinate the delivery of an effective Public Protection Service, including enforcement, business advice, and support.
2. Ensure high standards of customer service within your professional area.
3. Manage revenue and capital budgets within your cost centre.
4. Collaborate effectively with elected Members, business partners, external agencies, the private sector, and other stakeholders.
5. Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner agencies such as the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Service, Customs & Excise, Home Office, Food Standards Agency, and other local authorities to ensure cooperative operational arrangements.
6. Act as the lead practitioner to ensure compliance with legislation through technical expertise, investigation, enforcement, and successful prosecution.
7. Oversee the delivery of programmes and projects from start to finish, demonstrating leadership in successful project management.
8. Utilize ICT tools including MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, GIS, instant messaging, and mobile apps for effective work management.
Requirements
* Experience leading public protection services successfully.
* Experience managing a multidisciplinary enforcement team.
* Proven ability to work effectively with elected Members, partners, external agencies, and stakeholders.
* Track record of achieving statutory duties, legal compliance, and enforcement leading to successful prosecutions.
* Experience managing programmes and projects from inception to completion.
