Serco Maritime has a fantastic opportunity for a Chief Engineer to join the team in Plymouth.
As the Chief Engineer, your role will be to operate and ensure correct maintenance and repair of the vessel’s auxiliary machinery, ship’s systems, and equipment in a safe, effective, and economical manner to ensure the vessel complies with Flag State and Class standards. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and economic operation and upkeep of the vessel’s hull and machinery systems, equipment, structure, and fittings, including associated electrical and electronic equipment, embarked craft, ship’s boats, and portable plant.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the operational state and maintenance of all machinery and electrical equipment onboard the vessel assigned to you.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
1. The operation, maintenance, performance, availability, security, custody, and safety of all equipment and systems in your charge
2. The custody of drawings and publications associated with the equipment and systems in your charge, and of ship's machinery spares and stores appropriate to your department
3. The compilation of records, reports, and returns
4. Ensuring standards of fire prevention and fire fighting onboard vessels
5. Providing all necessary written procedures for the Engineering Department, as required by the Quality System or the ISM Code
6. Demanding stores, fuel, and spare gear as necessary
7. Acting as the Ship’s Safety and Environmental Officer
8. Being responsible for maintenance on more than one vessel
9. Operating winches during towing tasks
What you’ll need to do the role:
* Certificate of Competency issued under reg. III/3 of the STCW 95 code, Chief Engineer Certificates 3000kw (Tug)
* Leadership and people development skills
* First Aid certification
* Basic Sea Survival and CPSC Certificates
* ENG1 Medical certificate
* Basic Management skills
* Health and Safety awareness
* Managing customers and suppliers
* ISM Code knowledge
* Marine Industry experience
* Understanding of a planned maintenance system (such as AMOS)
* Good electrical knowledge
* Flexibility in working hours
* Ability to undertake towage winch operations
