Your New Opportunity: The postholder will undertake a varied operational role combining Class 1 driving duties, yard supervision responsibilities, and transport office support functions to assist with the safe, efficient, and compliant running of the nightshift operation. The role will involve ensuring the safe movement and positioning of vehicles and trailers, maintaining a safe and organised yard environment, supporting transport planning and administration activities, and ensuring customer service standards, Company procedures, and legal obligations are consistently met. Carry out all duties safely, taking reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others. Perform daily vehicle and trailer checks, complete required documentation/systems, and report defects promptly via the appropriate channels. Maintain vehicles, issued uniform, and Company equipment in a clean, tidy, and serviceable condition. When collecting trailers/vehicles/tanks from ports, check for shipping damage and report/document this appropriately with the Traffic Office, shipping company, and Company systems. Carry out manual coupling and uncoupling duties where required, including wagon and drag operations. Ensure completion and timely return of all PODs, PDA records, delivery notes, timesheets, tachograph records, and associated paperwork, reporting any shortages or damages at the point of collection/delivery. Ensure loads are distributed, secured, and strapped safely and legally, with consideration given to axle weights and load security requirements. Comply fully with tachograph, drivers’ hours, working time, and rest period regulations, including timely tachograph downloads/submissions. Report delays or operational issues promptly to the Traffic Office. Participate fully in training activities Yard Supervisor Duties Ensure the yard remains a safe, organised, and efficient working environment. Park and shunt vehicles and trailers safely between Company-operated yards and designated parking locations. Carry out regular yard inspections, security checks, and health & safety checks throughout the shift. Report hazards, damage, defects, or security concerns promptly. Maintain good housekeeping standards across the yard and operational areas. Office Support Duties Provide operational and administrative support to the transport office during the nightshift. Liaise with drivers, warehouse teams, and GB operations teams to help maintain high service levels. Assist with planning driver duties and maximising operational efficiency. Accurately update consignments, bookings, and operational information on the Transport Management System (TMS). Liaise with ferry companies regarding bookings and sailings. Support the management of vehicle breakdowns and operational issues. Ensure all paperwork and customer requirements are completed accurately and within required timescales. Participate fully in agreed training and development activities. General Responsibilities Work flexibly in line with operational requirements. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across all divisions. Operate in line with organisational policies, procedures and IT governance standards. Contribute positively to team objectives and support continuous improvement initiatives. Undertake any other reasonable duties aligned to the role, as required. What You'll Need: Essential Valid Class 1 (CE) driving licence. Valid Driver CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph Card. Previous experience within a transport, logistics, or yard environment. Good understanding of driver hours and transport compliance requirements. Basic IT/computer skills. Good communication and organisational skills. Ability to work independently and use initiative. Desirable Previous shunting experience. Previous transport office or planning experience. Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS). FLT licence/training. Health & Safety awareness within a logistics environment.
